An old advertisement in the 90's that became a part of our jargon was "Image is Everything". The most famous athlete/actor who proclaimed the message was Andre Agassi a brash, athletic, blond and long haired champion tennis player. Certainly the phrase has it's merits in how we view one another in a culture dominated by externals. The pressures are enormous to conform to someone else's expectations of what looks good or projects the best "image" of what we want people to think we represent in life. But who are we really? Hopefully who we are on the inside ultimately has more value than who we are trying to be based on the externals we can't ultimately control. Life has a way of break in and wrecking our finest wardrobe, whitened teeth or buff bod. God tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Who we are apart from what we can purchase or add on will have a limited impact till our soul is at rest in a relationship with God.
